The Switzerland-based on-site machining services company Energy Services Group has added a large new portable lathe to its range of on-site tooling designed for the on-site repair and refurbishment of turbines and generators worldwide. The new lathe is able to hold rotors and generators up to 100 tonnes yet can be fitted into a standard, six-metre container for shipment.
Designed by ESG, the range of functions incorporated into the lathe allows complete machining and balancing on-site, removing the need for returning large and critical components to manufacturer’s workshops. The lathe is driven by hydraulic motors built into the machine’s pedestals and offers electronic balancing together with vibration and phase measurement.
ESG has already completed contracts in Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Jordan.
