Full service carried out at Bavarian CHP plant

SIPOS, a manufacturer and global supplier of standard and specialist electric actuators, has installed and commissioned over 50 actuators at the Freimann combined heat and power plant, which supplies electricity to the power grid of SWM, Munich’s public utility company in Germany.

The actuators support an automation upgrade at the scheme which is part of a EUR15m investment to modernise pump technology and improve the heating network of Stadtwerke Màƒ¼nchen (SWM). Advancements are designed to provide a 15% reduction in heat loss, resulting in a drop in CO2 emissions by an estimated 1500 tons per annum.

Supporting enhancement objectives, the SIPOS 5 actuators supplied feature a PROFIBUS DP interface for high speed data communications. Additionally, the site’s existing Siemens control system has been upgraded with a new DCS, the Siemens Power and Process Automation T3000.

The Freimann CHP feeds 160 MW of electricity into the power grid of SWM. 400 MW of district heating power is made available for the hot water network. A district heating plant with 300 MW capacity contributes to the specified output. The plant also supplies district heating to car manufacturer BMW (FWB:à‚ BMW).
