A joint venture of MWH Treatment and the Spencer Group have secured preferred bidder status for the £150m Energy Works development in Hull, England.

Client Energy Works (Hull) is a subsidiary of the Spencer Group. The firm confirmed construction of the first phase of the development will begin early in 2015 with completion scheduled by March 2017.

The first phase will be an energy recovery facility that will generate 28 MW of electricity to power 43,000 homes using materials which would otherwise be sent to landfill.

Phase two will see the later addition of an Anaerobic Digestion plant and materials processing facilities.

The development will create more than 200 jobs during the construction phase.
