EuroSite Power Inc has signed an agreement worth approximately £1.39 million (US$2.13 million) with Basingstoke Sports Centre, in the UK, for a combined heat and power (CHP) system.

To be installed, owned and operated by EuroSite Power, the 125 kWe system installed will produce up to 2,058,000 kWh of total energy per year.

Based at the Festival Place shopping centre in Basingstoke, Hampshire, estimated savings for the sports centre (pictured) are in excess of £13,000 ($19,920) per year, with no capital or maintenance costs.

With two swimming pools, squash courts, 186-station gyms and sports hall the sports centre will purchase its energy at a rate guaranteed to be lower than if it were to buy directly from the grid.

Basingstoke Sports Centre Chief Executive Officer James Starbuck said: ‘For a major sports centre, keeping control of energy costs is essential. As energy prices rise, a solution that allows us to manage the risk with zero upfront capital costs is perfect’.
