Cogeneration behind word’s most affordable zero-energy home claim

Houston city in the US is making a claim to having the most affordable zero-energy homes in the world, and its one powered by cogeneration power.

à‚  Houze Advanced Building Science in conjunction with the city has made the claim and the houses recently unveiled at Independence Heights use natural gas cogeneration.

à‚  The co-generation power cell provides more energy to each home than it uses, with additional power put back into the grid.


The design of theà‚ Arts and Crafts-style models consider other elements of energy preservation and cost effectiveness from everything down to the grass variety, which requires less water than a typical turf.


Despite being relatively cheap for zero-energy homes, the $200,000 price tag is still daunting for many, reported CultureMap Houston.
