ATCO Gas has launched a new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) programme aimed at municipal and commercial facilities in Alberta, Canada, with two projects.
The Collicutt Centre, a recreation facility in the City of Red Deer, and the Sierras of Tuscany, an adult condominium complex in Calgary will see ATCO Gas install, own and maintain gas-fired CHP units.
ATCO estimates that the Collicutt Centre will be saving close to C$35,000 per year in energy costs over the life of the project. Similarly, the Sierras of Tuscany will save an estimated C$28,000 per year in energy costs.
The CHP programme is funded in part by the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC).
“This programme demonstrates the viability of CHP technology and encourages businesses and institutions to consider the many benefits of CHP in their facilities. In addition to the reduced operating costs and lower GHG emissions, one of the unique features of the programme is that there is no upfront capital investment from the building owner,” said Bill Stephens, President of ATCO Gas.
