BMW factory installs CHP from GE Jenbacher

At its Regensburg Auto Factory in Germany, BMW has installed four Jenbacher J616 cogeneration modules to provide 10.7 MW in power, or 30% of the plant’s needs.

The four combined heat and power (CHP) units will also deliver 9.6 MW in waste heat for use in the factory, including for heating during winter months, giving a combined efficiency of up to 85.3%.

GE (NYSE:GE) claims its ecomagination-qualified Jenbacher gas engines will also help BMW (FWB:BMW) operate during grid disruptions by powering emergency lights.

GE Jenbacher engies are now installed at four BMW plants, delivering a total of 22.1 MW in electricity and 21.57 MW in thermal output.
