Texas-based Fluor Corporation has won a contract to build a 540 MW gas fired combined-cycle power plant for the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA).

The project, which is expected to begin next year, will replace the existing 37-year-old, single unit 420 MW Thomas C. Ferguson Power Plant near Marble Falls, Texas.

Fluor designs, builds and maintains energy projects involving coal, gas, nuclear and renewables and currently operates 40 combined cycle plants worldwide.

The LCRA supplies electricity to more than 1.1 million Texans through more than 40 wholesale customers, and also manages floods, protecting the Colorado River water quality.
