Three units in India’s Haryana state remain off line due to technical problems, and as a result, out of a total installed capacity of 3230 MW, Haryana Power Generation Corp (HPGCL) only has 1800 MW available, resulting in a power shortfall across the state.
Unit 4 at Panipat power plant, unit 2 at Rajiv Gandhi power plant and unit 2 at Yamunanagar power plant have not yet resumed operations after being shut for technical reasons. Sources within HPGCL said that the problem at Yamunanagar 2 was “major” and that a team of Chinese experts was engaged in repairs. They said that it might take two weeks before the unit is again operational.
To help reduce the power shortfall while the units are being repaired, Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam is drawing 1408 MW from the northern grid, in addition to 1178 MW already being drawn.
