The newly merged energy giant GDF Suez is expanding its cogeneration business in Thailand, developing two new projects located in the Map Ta Phut industrial area.

A 382 MW gas-fired plant, which started construction in August, and a 115 MW coal-fired plant, which is due to start commercial operations at the end of 2009, will be developed by GDF Suez subsidiary Glow Energy.

Nearly 70% of the total electricity and steam output of the gas-fired cogeneration plant capacity and 100% of the coal-fired plant capacity has already been contracted by major industrial customers.
