While the company has declined to comment, the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) reported, citing unnamed industry sources that the company is considering purchase.

Czech Republic’s CEZ is preparing a potential bid, which they will send on December 21st, however the regional newspaper states that German politicians and trade unions were trying to find German buyers for the assets, with one possibility that a financial investor delivers a majority of the capital while Steag takes over the running of the operations.

Sweden’s Vattenfall wants to reach an agreement on the sale of its lignite and hydro power plants in Germany during the first half of next year.
