Shenhua Group Corporation plans to build what is described as Asia’s biggest coal fired power plant in Guangxi province in the south of China to help combat electricity shortages in the region, the Xinhua News Agency reports.

The parent company of Hong Kong-listed China Shenhua Energy Company (1088) signed an agreement with the local government to build an 8000 MW plant at the port city of Beihai.

Construction of the plant is expected to take around five years.
