Pöyry’s Energy Business Group has won an €8m ($11m) engineering consultancy services assignment for the Mong Duong 1 coal fired power plant project stage 2 in Vietnam, says the Finland-based consulting and engineering company.

The 1 GW plant will have two power generating units. Pöyry’s contract covers engineering design review, construction supervision, environmental monitoring, and monitoring of the resettlement plan implementation.

Pöyry will also assist during the warranty period, transfer know-how, and provide training activities. The duration of these services is 71 months.

The Mong Duong 1 project is an important part of Vietnam’s efforts to reduce power shortages, especially in the northern part of the country. The project will increase the capacity of thermal power generation in the region and thus help stabilise the power supply, especially during the dry season.
