Norway assists upgrade of Mozambique coal plant

The NorwegiaMozambigue on map of African government is to provide $3.5m in financial assistance towards the upgrade of Maputo coal-fired power plant in Mozambique.

The project’s coordinator, Joàƒ£o Manuel, announced the news of investment, according to Maputo-based daily Notàƒ­cias.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Bàƒ¸rge Brende toured the power plant, where the expansion work will soon begin. The aim is to improve the quality of the energy produced and to increase output.

Contacts are currently under way with Germany and the European Development Bank with a view to obtaining funds to cover the remaining $6.6m needed for the project, Manuel added.
