Former AES Gener execs to develop Chile coal plant

Former executives with extensive experience in the power generation sector, alongside Chilean investors, are working on a coal-fired power plant project to be located in the north of the country.

The Luz de Atacama project is driven by a group of former executives of AES Gener.

This despite two of the main generators operating in the country having rejected developing a new generation of projects using coal due to environmental issues and conflict with communities.

This would be the largest thermoelectric project to be built in the country, with an installed capacity of 1410 MW.
