Wartsila is to supply a 40 MW onsite power plant in Tanzania.

The Finnish company will provide four of its 32TS engines running on heavy or light fuel oil to Geita Gold Mining.

The plant – which is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2018 – will provide electricity to the Geita gold mine, located in the Lake Victoria goldfields of the Mwanza region in northwest of the country.

Being off-grid means that the mine needs to secure its own power supply and it needs to remain operational at all times.

Wartsila says its 32TS engines are two-staged turbocharged, making them “ideally suited for tough operating environments, such as the high elevation location of the Geita mine”.
