Finnish power company Wartsila has won a deal for a 225 MW gas plant in the US.
The STEC Red Gate power plant will be located in Hidalgo County, Texas and be operated by South Texas Electric Co-operative. It is scheduled to be operational by summer 2014.
Wartsila will supply 12 of its 50SG engines, a four-stroke, spark-ignited gas engine operating on the Otto cycle and incorporating the lean-burn principle.
The new plant is designed to meet the Best Available Control Technology pollution standards under the United States Clean Air Act.
Wayne Elmore, regional director of power plants sales at Wartsila North America, said: “In today’s power generation market, flexibility, quick start-up capability, superior load following and low water consumption are essential factors, and these were important considerations in the award of this valuable contract.”
Wartsila has already supplied three power plants in Texas, including the 200 MW facility at Pearsall, Texas, which is also owned and operated by STEC.
