VA Tech wins €33m National Grid order

15 April, 2002 – VA Tech Transmission & Distribution (VA Tech T&D), part of Austria’s VA Tech group, has been awarded four new contracts from National Grid worth in excess of €33m.

VA Tech Reyrolle, a company of the VA Tech T&D group, which is a manufacturer and provider of high voltage electricity transmission and distribution equipment and services, will carry out the orders which cover four separate sites in the UK or National Grid.

Klaus Brenner, VA Tech T&D Chairman of the board, said “Work will start immediately on these further orders for National Grid which are part of their on-going programme to upgrade and reinforce the transmission system.”

VA Tech Reyrolle will be responsible for building a new 275kV air insulated substation in Northumberland to give improved security of supply in the North East of England. It will also supply and installing 275/132kv transformers manufactured by Scotland-based sister company VA Tech Peebles transformers, replacing existing assets in Lancashire.

The remaining orders are for new 400kV switchgear and associated works in South Wales and an upgrading of an existing substation in Hampshire, which includes the supply and installation of replacement 132kV Circuit breakers.

Klaus Brenner added “This is a significant order for VA Tech Reyrolle and one which will reinforce our relationship with National Grid.”
