27 March 2002 – VA Tech Hydro, the Austrian suppliers of equipment and services for hydropower plants, has won the contract for new Peltonturbines at Sernf and Niederenbach, Schwanden in Glarus, Switzerland.
The contract, placed by SN Energie AG, Schwanden, CH, is for the
provision of new turbines for the existing power house as part of a modernisation programme and will increase the peak power output by 30 per cent. Work includes installing a new 28.4 MW Pelton Turbine with 4 jets at Niederenbach, and a new 15.6 MW Pelton Turbine with 6 jets at Sernf, both vertical axis, including governors.
The contract value is around €4m, and is the first new contract VA Tech Hydro has carried out for SN Energie AG in the last years. There will be minimal production losses during reconstruction phase with start up scheduled for end of 2003 in Sernf and one year later, end of 2004, in Niederenbach.
