4 April, 2002 – Austria’s VA Tech Hydro and National Electric Coil (NEC), USA, have combined resources to offer hydro plant repair, retrofit and upgrade services to meet the demand in the hydro services marketplace for innovative technological solutions, delivered within an efficient turnkey program.
The partnering agreement formalises a relationship already in place for two projects. One at the Corps of Engineers’ Walter F. George plant in Alabama, and the other for the Eugene Water & Electric Board in Oregon.
With VA Tech Hydro as system integrator, the partnership offers the full spectrum of hydrogeneration systems and services from water to wire.
VA Tech Hydro said in a statement that its skill set has evolved to include innovative design approaches to gates, penstocks, inlet valves, all types of hydro turbines, generators, excitation systems, governors, automation & controls, protection, switchgear, transformers and substations.
VA Tech Hydro and NEC have had a long-term presence in the hydropower marketplace. VA Tech, for more than 160 years, has been a leading designer and manufacturer of turbines, generators, and auxiliaries.
National Electric Coil, as it has for over 80 years, continues as a leader in the manufacture, overhaul and upgrade of generators and large motors, its capabilities include the manufacture of a full complement of aftermarket coils and extensive electro-mechanical rehabilitations. VA Tech said that the partnership provides each company with the opportunity to capitalize on its particular strengths.
