Siemens (NYSE: SI) have received an order for 126 MW of wind turbine capacity from Bord Na Mona in Ireland.
The 28 SWT-3.0-101 direct-drive turbines are to facilitate two onshore wind projects in the Irish Midlands for the utility.
The two wind farms are set to be commissioned in 2014. Siemens has also agreed a service contract for the plants for a 15 year period.
“This is the first order from Ireland for our direct-drive wind turbines,” says Felix Ferlemann, CEO of Siemens Wind. Ferlemann says that Siemens has sold more than 800 direct drive turbines around the world.
