Positive indicator for Germany as Siemens to supply wind power

Dong’s Gode Wind projects are set to be supplied by Siemens after agreement was made this week.

Siemens (NYSE:SI) are to supply 924 MW of wind turbines for the projects off the coast of Germany, signalling that obstacles to the industry’s expansion are easing.

The agreement provides for the supply and servicing of 154 6-megawatt turbines at Dong’s Gode Wind projects.

The news can be seen as an indicator that Germany’s wind output targets can be met. Previously, the strategy looked to be faltering as as debt-strapped utilities postponed investments, grid connections stall and construction costs soar.

Dong bought the three North Sea-based Gode Wind parks from German developer PNE Wind AG (PNE3) last year, and may install turbines from 2015.
