PacifiCorp asked the Public Service Commission of Utah to approve plans to acquire and build aà‚ new 637 MW à‚ combined-cycle natural gas combustion turbine power plant.à‚

If theà‚ request is approved, PacifiCorp has selected CH2M Hill E&C Inc. as engineering, procurement and construction contractor to build the plant.à‚ PacifiCorp hopes to obtain approvals by April 2011. The plantà‚ could enterà‚ service by summer 2014.

The project would be built adjacent to the utility’s existing Lake Side plant, 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. The project, called Lake Side 2, would feature two natural gas combined-cycle combustion turbines and generators, together with a steam turbine generator. The plant would meet or exceed all current environmental requirements. Air permitting for the project is in progress.

The need for new generating resources was identified by PacifiCorp’s long-range Integrated Resource Plan. Lake Side 2 is the lowest reasonable cost, qualifying resource resulting from the company’s Request for Proposals for Flexible Resources, which was conducted under aà‚ process outlined by utility regulatory commissions in Utah and Oregon. The utility said cverall plant costs will be made public at a later date.
