On-site energy order for Chinese nuclear

A consortium led by Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen is to provide 13 emergency power supply gensets to the southern Chinese Yangjiang nuclear power plant under the terms of an €85 million contract.

Consortium partners include the joint venture between MTU and the Chinese Norinco Group, Shanxi North MTU Diesel Co. Ltd., and nuclear technology group Areva NP, which is responsible for the electrical components.

As of 2010, the emergency power gensets are to be assembled in the joint venture’s plant in Datong.

The emergency power supply gensets of the Tognum brand MTU Onsite Energy are based on series 20V 956 TB33 diesel engines with an electrical power output of 6 MW. Following the initial signal, start up is within 10 seconds. They will be delivered between 2011 and 2014.
