28 May 2002 – A wind turbine manufacturer has been awarded construction contracts in Australia by Pacific Hydro Ltd, and in Greece by Wind Parks of Thrace worth a total of $183m.

The contracts call for the installation of 51 900 kW wind turbines in three different locations in northern Greece. In Australia, 120 1500 kW wind turbines are to be built in the Portland, Victoria region and 23 1500 kW wind turbine generators will be built south of Adelaide in South Australia province.

Due to the Green Energy movement to reduce the world’s CO2 emissions, wind energy is gaining market share as an environmentally friendly renewable energy source. NEG-Micon has been targeting the Australian and Greek markets for sometime now due to their huge wind power potential. A 20 per cent growth in 2002 for NEG-Micon is a viable goal, especially with the contracts received in these two regions. In 2001 NEG-Micon installed 875 MW, compared to 600 MW in 2000.
