ORLANDO, Fla., March 22, 2002 — Nearly 200 power industry executives, state and local dignitaries, international guests and representatives of the trade media were in attendance at a recent dedication of the new Mitsubishi Power Systems (MPS) Turbine Service & Component Manufacturing Center.

The center – which will provide comprehensive repair and engineering services for Mitsubishi’s installed fleet of gas and steam turbines in the Western Hemisphere and Western Europe – is the most recent addition to the company’s expanding Americas presence.

It joins the MPS Headquarters operation in nearby Lake Mary, as well as a dedicated engineering design facility in Miami, satellite sales offices in Los Angeles and Philadelphia, and service operations in Houston.

At the opening ceremonies, MPS President and CEO Noriaki Fuseya cited the $38 million, state-of-the-art facility as tangible evidence of Mitsubishi’s “commitment to total service” for turbine customers throughout the Western Hemisphere. In a message presented by Steve Mayberry, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Florida, Inc., Governor Jeb Bush lauded Mitsubishi as “one of the oldest, largest and most respected companies in the world,” and cited the company’s “incredible potential” to act as a magnet for other high-tech businesses to bring additional high-wage, quality jobs to Florida.

“In that Mitsubishi’s focus in Florida is state-of-the-art design and manufacturing,” the message read, “their presence continues to validate our position as a high-tech leader, and one that can accommodate industries serving the entire Western Hemisphere.”

Governor Bush’s office – in cooperation with Enterprise Florida and the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission – was instrumental in bringing Mitsubishi Power Systems to Central Florida.

At full staff levels, Mitsubishi’s Orlando Service Center and Lake Mary headquarters facility will ultimately employ approximately 400. In addition to component repair and manufacturing, the center will provide a wide range of customer support, component repair and field services, remote monitoring and diagnostics, outage planning and management, central gas turbine parts inventory, and customer operator training.

A US-based subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., MPS is a major supplier of electric power generation equipment and systems, including gas and steam turbines, wind and geothermal generating installations, and plant emission control systems.
