The 1386 MW plant is currently being built by Safi Energy Company near the city of Safi in Morocco. Safi Energy is a joint venture between Mitsui & Co, GDF Suez and Nareva Holding, a state-affiliated investment company in Morocco. The EPC contractor is South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction.
The plant will be the first ultra-supercritical plant to be built in Africa and once completed in 2018 it will supply power to l’Office National de l’Électricité et de l’Eau Potable, the Moroccan state-owned utility.
As well as supplying the two 693 MW steam turbines and generators, MHPS will also dispatch supervisors and conduct training in Morocco.
