Japan’s Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) is set to supply two gas turbines for a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in China.

The 80 MW plant, which is scheduled to come online in December 2018, is planned to supply power and industrial process heat to the Qingdao high-tech development zone/Hongdao economic zone in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao.

MHPS will supply the two 32 MW H-25 gas turbines through local contractor Harbin Guanghan Power Technology Development Co.

The 9.8 square km industrial zone is home to software companies including 13 Fortune 500 firms, as well as a national-level science and technology park.

The project is being developed by Qingdao Energy Kaiyuan Thermoelectricity Co, a subsidiary of Qingdao Energy Group which is owned by the city’s government.

The firm operates the municipal district heating plant and supplies most of the city’s heat.
