A deal for two large-scale supercritical-pressure boilers has been won by a joint venture between Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems and Larsen & Toubro.

The contract has been awarded by India’s state-owned thermal power provider NTPC for a new plant it is building in the Tanda district of Uttar Pradesh.

The boilers – each of 660 MW – will be installed in units 1 and 2 of the new plant. Handover and start of operation of the boilers are scheduled for July 2018 for Unit 1 and January 2019 for Unit 2.

MHPS will supply pressure parts and core components of the two boilers to joint venture L&T-MHPS Boilers.

NTPC is India’s largest power provider, accounting for nearly 25 per cent of thermal power generation in the country.
