MHI and Tokyo Gas unveil new cogen engine

Japan‘s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Tokyo Gas Co have jointly developed a new 1000kW gas engine cogeneration system.

The new system ” which will go on sale on Friday (November 1) ” is based on the conventional 930kW gas engine cogeneration system, but the engine maintenance interval has been extended compared to the conventional system.

MHI says the friction wear of the engine components is reduced by lowering the engine speed from 1500 revolutions per minute to 1000 rpm, which “ultimately results in reduction in engine maintenance frequency and cost”.

The companies say that upgraded engine control technologies have helped the engine achieve generating efficiency of 42.3 per cent, which they claim is the highest level in the 1000kW, as well as overall efficiency of 78.5 per cent.
