Metso launches new power solutions

18 June 2002 – Metso Automation has introduced a solution to better maintenance planning and developing boiler parts to enhance conditions for both the operating power plant and the
boiler manufacturer.

The boiler life monitoring gives the operator real time knowledge about the lifespan consumption of different boiler components. This allows the system to collect and store the operational data of a boiler and represent it into key figures.

Information management systems, consisting of various applications such as the boiler life monitoring, are becoming more and more integrated to the process equipment. It can be a fixed part of the supply delivered with the equipment.

In other business, Metso supplied Foster Wheeler with an automation solution order to be implemented at Estonia’s Eesti and Balti Power Plants near the city of Narva. The plants belong to Eesti Energia company and are burning local oil shale. Foster Wheeler Energia Oy will supply four circulating fludized bed boilers as well as two steam turbine- and generator renovations to Narva Power Plants in order to repower two power blocks, Eesti Block 8 and Balti Block 11. Both blocks will start-up during 2003 and 2004.
