MAN Diesel & Turbo has supplied six gensets to power a new cement factory in Iraq.

The gensets and mechanical equipment were delivered to China Gezhouba Group Cooperation (CGGC)-UN Power Co Ltd, the EPC contractor building a 50 MW on-site power plant for Iraqi cement producer KAAI’s new factory in the city of Samawah.

The gensets will run on heavy fuel in baseload mode, MAN said.

Samawah is located on the Euphrates river halfway between Baghdad and the Persian Gulf. The city receives just 100 mm of rain per year and temperatures can climb to over 40°C between June and September.

Waldemar Wiesner, head of MAN’s power plants business in the MEA region, said his firm’s engines are “the ideal solution for reliable power supplies under extreme climatic conditions”.
