China Development Bank has provided $52m in senior project finance for the wind farm, with the remaining $18m being funded by Mainstream’s own equity.

Leading Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Goldwind is supplying the project with its GW87 1.5 MW wind turbines.

Mainstream is building another, 150-megawatt wind farm in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, part of an overall drive by the Irish company to create 2,300 MW of capacity in the South American country.

Chile expects to triple generating capacity in the next 15 years because of rising demand from mining companies.
