FOXBORO, Mass., Sept. 19, 2001 Invensys Process Systems has received a major contract from Castle Peak Power Company Limited (CAPCO) to provide a Foxboro I/A Series control system at the Castle Peak `B’ Power Station in Hong Kong. This is Hong Kong’s largest power station and one of the largest coal-fired power stations in the world.
First commissioned in 1985, the Castle Peak `B’ Power Station has four units, each capable of generating 677.5 MW of power. The main plant generating equipment is from UK-based GEC Turbine Generators Ltd. (now known as Alstom) and FKI Babcock Ltd. (now known as Mitsui Babcock Energy Ltd.) Invensys will supply Foxboro I/A Series technology to replace the aging modulating and sequential boiler controls and enhance control room operations. Invensys will also provide installation and commissioning services.
According to power station officials, Castle Peak selected Invensys because of its proven global expertise in upgrading and refurbishing power facilities, the reliability and versatility of the Foxboro I/A Series system, and Invensys’ programs for providing ongoing, measurable performance improvement.
The Castle Peak Power Station is owned by CAPCO, a partnership formed between CLP Power and ExxonMobil Energy Limited. CLP Power supplies electricity to 1.9 million customers in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, representing about 5.9 million people in Kowloon, the New Territories and most of the outlying islands, including Lantau, where the Hong Kong International Airport is located.
CLP Holdings, CLP Power’s parent company, participates in power projects with a total installed capacity of 8,263 MW and a further 2,743 equity MW in the region.
