Oct. 20, 2000—Nearly 1,000 MW of new wind energy capacity was installed in Germany during the first nine months of this year, according to the German Wind Energy Association (BWE).

A total of 890 new turbines adding to 987.14 MW were installed during the period, BWE said, bringing Germany’s cumulative national totals to 8,769 turbines and 5,431.94 MW. Germany, slightly more than half as large as the state of Texas, currently has more than twice the installed wind generation capacity of the entire U.S.
