Malaysia‘s state-owned oil major Petronas has placed an order with MMC Engineering Services Sdn Bhd for the turnkey construction of a cogeneration plant in Pengerang, Malaysia.

The four unit installation will produce some 1200 MWe as well as up to 1480 tonnes per hour of process steam for the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), a petrochemical complex.

Under the terms of the deal, Siemens, in a consortium with MMC, will supply an H class gas turbine, a waste-heat recovery steam generator, a steam turbine, associated mechanical and electrical systems and the instrumentation and control system for each of the four units. The order also includes a long-term maintenance and services contract.

The first co-generation unit is expected to go online by mid-2017 and it will also supply power to the National Grid for public consumption. The remaining units will supply PIC facilities only.
