Gas engine CHP systems for Dutch tomato growers

DEUTZ Power System B.V. in Rotterdam has experience of several projects for the installation of CHP systems to provide heat and power, and also carbon dioxide to promote tomato growth in greenhouses in Holland. The company has now equipped one of Europe’s largest gas engine plants, which supplies a 50 Ha greenhouse array in Zeeland with heat and electricity. At these facilities, almost 4000 tonnes of tomatoes are harvested every year.

In the first construction stage, 12 gensets with V16 cylinder gas engines were installed. In the second, expansion stage, 4 additional gensets with V20 cylinder gas engines were added. The CHP plant therefore generates a total of 25 MW of electricity and 27 MW of thermal energy.
