July 11, 2002 — Framatome ANP Inc. signed an agreement last week to purchase the assets of Washington Group International Inc.’s Equipment and Services (E&S) Division.
E&S, headquartered in Denver, CO, specializes in fuel handling machines and transfer systems for both PWR and BWR nuclear power plants.
E&S is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of nuclear fuel handling systems for 60% of the US nuclear power plants operating today in addition to being the OEM for 21 international plants. The group also provides technical support services for refueling outages, replacement parts and equipment modifications.
Framatome ANP, Inc. President and CEO, Tom Christopher, noted that this purchase fits in nicely with current business needs. Some of the equipment will be moved to Framatome ANP’s new training facility, under construction in Lynchburg, VA.
“This acquisition will enable us to expand and increase the depth of our refueling services, just as we recently did with our engineering capabilities. Framatome ANP, the world leader in nuclear engineering, nuclear fuel and nuclear services, is committed to providing its customers the full range of services to maximize plant operation throughout their extended life.”
In the 1960s, Stearns Roger became involved in the design, fabrication and testing of items to serve the nuclear power industry, including fuel handling equipment and reactor servicing equipment. They later became the Equipment and Services Group of Raytheon Engineers & Constructors (RE&C) and in 2000 the Washington Group acquired RE&C.
E&S’s employees will remain in Denver and will be integrated into the Outage and NDE Services organization within Framatome ANP, Inc.
