23 April 2002 – VA Tech Transmission & Distribution (VA Tech T&D), manufacturers of High Voltage Transmission and Distribution equipment, has won their first contract for a pre-designed integrated compact HV/MV substation (SHM) in Vietnam.

The contract is for a new 66/15kV Substation for the Ho Chi Minh City Power Company at XA LO, Vietnam.

Work starts this month on the design, manufacture, supply and erection of the substation, connected to the SAIGON 220/66 kV generation substation, and will include five TH7m compact gas insulated switchgear GIS bays, two lines and two transformers.

“This new substation is in an urban area and the compactness of the VA Tech T&D completely pre-engineered TH7m solution was an ideal way to achieve best space utilisation” said Klaus Brenner, VA Tech T&D Chairman of the board. “This important inner city district Substation is intended to increase the reliability of the power distribution for this large, fast growing city by reducing the number of outages”.

This contract represents the first pre-designed SHM solution sold in Asia based on the TH7m GIS. Ranging from 72.5 kV to 145 kV, the new ‘TH7m’ gas insulated switchgear (GIS) brings together leading product innovation with a more compact size, economical benefits and shorter delivery times, and offers optimised GIS with control monitoring and integrated protection systems.
