18 June 2002 – Italian power plant developer Enelpower has selected a plant management system from Westinghouse Process Control for the new Enel Produzione Pietrafitta Nuova power plant in Umbria, Italy. The PlantWeb system will enable control room operators to manage all the functions of the 390 MW combined cycle facility from one location.
According to Westinghouse, Enelpower selected its PlantWeb system for its ability to provide operation and maintenance information through intelligent field devices. This function will simplify engineering, optimize plant management and increase availability through advanced diagnostics and predictive maintenance, giving Enel a competitive advantage in the liberalizing market.
The $1.5m PlantWeb system will enable plant operators to gather critical information from field devices via both the plant’s analogue and digital I/O. The system will also manage other functions at the Pietrafitta Nuova plant such as gas and steam turbine controls.
The Westinghouse system to be installed includes the DeltaV digital automation system with AMS predictive maintenance software and Foundation fieldbus devices, and will integrate Profibus DP
Westinghouse is a division of Pittsburgh-based Emerson Process Management.
