Element Power has started construction works on the 50 MW Macho Springs wind power project in Luna County, New Mexico.
The project will consist of 28 units of Vestas V100-1.8 MW wind turbines. When completed in August 2011, the facility will provide electricity to Tucson Electric Power (TEP) through a long-term power purchase agreement.
Macho Springs is estimated to provide over $8 million in revenue to Luna County over the 20-year life of the project.
Element Power is also working on a second phase of Macho Springs located six miles to the north in Sierra County. The 50 MW phase will connect with the grid at the same location.
