Dong to build $1.35bn offshore wind farm off UK

Dong Energy is to construct a 201 MW offshore wind farm off the east coast of England.

The Danish energy company will invest $1.35bn on the project, consisting of 35 Siemens wind power turbines, each of 6 MW, at the Westernmost Rough site on the North Sea.

It is estimated that it will be sufficient to power almost 210,000 British households.

The decision gives a further boost to plans for a $331m Siemens factory in nearby Hull and is the first part of a huge framework deal. Siemens (NYSE:à‚ SI) confirmed to local media that it would look to build a “portion” of these hi-tech turbines at the proposed new plant in the city.
