26 September 2002 – Equipment supplier to Dabhol Power project, GE Capital, has agreed to support National Thermal Power Corporation in assessing the plant’s condition and help restart generation.
A senior Power Ministry official said that a team comprising representatives from GE, NTPC, Bechtel, Maharashtra State Electricity and IDBI-led lenders’ consortium will visit the plant soon to assess its status. A meeting between the interested parties held on Wednesday focused on the technical aspects of how to restart the 740 MW Dabhol power project.
“Nobody knows how much damage has happened to the plant which is lying idle since May last year. Naphtha was lying there, pipes and turbines. Unless these are opened it was difficult to assess the condition and give any timeframe to restart generating electricity from the plant,” said senior Power Ministry officials.
