A 21 MW gas turbine cogeneration plant is set to be built near Santiago in Chile in October, subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment.

The plan was submitted to the environmental evaluation service (SEA) of Chile’s metropolitan region.

CMPC Tissue decided to install the $27m plant to provide power and hot gas to its paper product manufacturing facility 40km south of capital Santiago to eliminate reliance on the central SIC grid.

The project is expected to be operational in a year.
