A 463 MWe combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) combined heat and power (CHP) plant located at a refinery (pictured) in Włocławek, Poland has been fired up for the first time.

Developed on behalf of oil refiner PKN Orlen, the plant is being constructed by a consortium of General Electric and SNC-Lavalin Polska under a contract with a value of roughly PLN 1.4 billion ($350 million).

The startup phase is due to be completed mid-year.

One of PKN Orlen’s two key cogeneration projects, another 600 MWe unit is under construction in Płock. Electricity produced by the two CCGT units will be used on-site and sold in the domestic market.
