16 September 2010 – India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned a gas turbine generating unit at the Oman refinery and petrochemical plant in Muscat. The 26 MW generator, the second such unit to be commissioned by BHEL at the site, will provide captive power generation for the oil refinery.

The units were engineered, manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Hyderabad plant, while the state-of-the-art control system was supplied by the company’s Bangalore works.

BHEL has an established relationship with Petroleum Development Oman, the hydrocarbon exploration company, majority owned by the Government of Oman.

The Sultanate of Oman is a key export market for BHEL, with several benchmark references established by the company. BHEL has installed 16 gas turbine sets with a cumulative capacity of more than 1250 MW in Oman alone, for sectors such as petroleum, utilities and industry.
