14 October 2002 – STC ATEL SpA of Forli, Italy has selected a GE MS6001FA (Frame 6FA) gas turbine for an independent combined-cycle power plant to be built in Novara, Italy, about 60km west of Milan.
GE will supply the 70 MW class Frame 6FA along with auxiliary equipment, erection, commissioning and training services for the project. The gas turbine will be equipped with a GE Dry Low NOx combustion system to limit NOx emissions to 25 parts per million.
The plant will be owned and operated by ATEL Energia Srl of Italy, a subsidiary of ATEL of Switzerland, while Colenco Power Engineering of Switzerland is the engineering consultant for the project.
The Novara plant is expected to begin commercial service in 2004. The gas turbine will be manufactured at GE’s Belfort, France facility and shipped to the project site in March of 2003. Fuel for the plant will be natural gas.
To date, 58 GE Frame 6FA gas turbines have been ordered or installed for projects around the world, including 29 in Europe. The 6FA is the mid-sized member of GE’s fleet of F technology gas turbines, which has achieved six
million hours of commercial service worldwide.
