Jan. 29, 2001—ALSTOM has secured orders worth a total of 22 million euros to supply gas turbine compressor sets in the UK and Argentina.

In the UK, ALSTOM will supply two Cyclone gas turbine compressor sets under a contract awarded by Costain Oil Gas and Process Ltd., the main contractor for the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of a new station at Nether Kellet, Lancashire, and a further unit for an existing station at Cambridge.

The stations are part of the UK’s gas transmission system operated by the Gas Pipeline Operator TRANSCO. The Cylones, with their latest technology and environmentally friendly combustion, offer higher efficiency and lower emissions than existing equipment.

The 18,000hp rated Cyclones will operate on natural gas. Each will drive a Demag Delaval compressor. Delivery of the sets is scheduled for April and May 2001 and they are due to be handed over to TRANSCO in August and October 2001.

In Argentina, ALSTOM will supply Total Austral with two Tornado gas turbine driven compressor sets. The units will boost low pressure raw gas to the Caadon Alfa gas processing plant at Tierra del Fuego. ALSTOM has already supplied three Tornado gas turbine compressor sets to this location under previous contracts.

The 10,300 hp rated Tornados will incorporate a Dresser Rand compressor. Delivery of the new units is scheduled for May 2001.

Manufacturing of both the Cyclone and Tornado gas turbines will be carried out at ALSTOM Power’s Lincoln facility in the UK.
