Alstom win contract at $5.51bn Colombian hydro project

Colombia-based utility Empresas Publica de Medellin (EPM) has awarded Alstom Brasil Energia e Transporte a $226 million contract to supply the equipment for the $5.51bn, 2.4 GW Ituango hydroelectric power project.

According to BNAmericas, the contract Alstom (Euronext:à‚ ALO) has won includes supply of turbines, generators and associated equipment and covers an eight-year construction phase and 42 years of operations.

The first units of the Ituango project are expected to come online in 2018. River diversion and access road construction is already underway, and the work order for the principal works is expected to be issued in October, the article said.
