UNITED KINGDON—Alstom has won a 9 million euro order to supply and maintain a gas turbine for a cogeneration plant in the United Kingdom. Under the contract awarded by Npower, Alstom Power will supply a 12.90 MW Cyclone gas turbine generating set for the Huntsman Tioxide plant in Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

This will be the first Cyclone to be installed in the UK, the first to incorporate a dry low emissions combustion system with dual fuel capability and the first to have on-skid mounted controls to reduce installation and commissioning time. The contract also includes a 10-year maintenance agreement on the gas turbine.

The Cyclone is manufactured by Alstom Power in Lincoln, UK, and will replace two 3.9 MW Typhoon gas turbine generating sets which were installed in 1991 to provide direct drying for the gypsum plant. The new cogeneration plant will also incorporate a waste heat boiler and steam turbine, providing 80 tons/hr of steam for the steam turbine and manufacturing process and 23 MW of electricity.

Delivery of the generating set is scheduled for June 2001 and the unit will be handed over for commercial operation by the end of October 2001.
